Georgia Directive 24-EX-8

The Georgia DOI issued Directive 24-EX-8 as an update to the previous Directive 24-EX-6 from October 1, 2024. The original directive had prohibited insurance companies from canceling policies in certain counties to aid recovery efforts, ensuring that policyholders wouldn’t lose coverage due to non-payment.

Effective as of October 16, 2024, this prohibition on policy cancellations will be lifted in numerous counties, including:

Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Clayton, Cobb, Crisp, Decatur, DeKalb, Dodge, Dougherty, Douglas, Early, Fayette, Fulton, Grady, Gwinnett, Henry, Jasper, Lee, McDuffie, Miller, Mitchell, Pulaski, Quitman, Randolph, Rockdale, Seminole, Terrell, Thomas, Twiggs, and Wilcox, allowing insurance companies to resume normal operations regarding policy cancellations for non-payment in these areas. This change reflects progress in recovery efforts, making the resumption of standard policy cancellation practices feasible.

However, this current Directive 24-EX-8 continues to prohibit policy cancellations in several other counties, including:

Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Baldwin, Ben Hill, Berrien, Bleckley, Brantley, Brooks, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Columbia, Cook, Echols, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Glascock, Glynn, Hancock, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lanier, Laurens, Liberty, Long, Lowndes, McIntosh, Montgomery, Pierce, Putnam, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Tattnall, Telfair, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Turner, Ware, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wheeler, Wilkinson, and Worth, indicating that recovery efforts in these areas have not progressed enough to warrant lifting such measures.
