At that time, Tom advised me that other regions were conducting similar events. He encouraged me to take the lead on starting the Northeast Agency Women’s Group and provided some funding, resources, and guidance. Shortly after, Selective started Women’s Agency Leadership Initiative, and my small group joined a much larger one.
I thought to myself, what had I learned then that I could apply here in Vermont?
Then I had my aha moment.
I realized that none of my successes throughout my career were solo endeavors. I always had the support of others when I asked for it. Being strong and independent doesn’t mean I am in this alone! Independence is not a desert island.
It is more about seeking help and guidance when necessary. It is about stepping out of my comfort zone and realizing that I don’t have all the answers, but I have something better: the support of my leaders. With their support and the help of our Line of Business experts and Business Service Unit, we launched in Vermont – soon after meeting our new business goal, and completed staff training.
This project not only allowed me to grow my knowledge of a new state but also reminded me of how to overcome obstacles. It helped me bring Selective to a new place, and it taught me a lot about myself. I am grateful for the support I have here at Selective.
